What is your name?
My name is Jackson Pavone. Most people in the scene know me as Pabu, which is the name of a cute and cheeky red panda type creature from the Avatar series.
Where do you live?
I grew up in Melbourne, Australia, and I'm currently competing out of Melbourne. I've spent a fair share of my post-schooling years in Sydney, however.
What would you like to tell me about your family and your job?
My immediate family all lives in Melbourne too. My sister is a few years younger than me, my father is an audio engineer, and my mother was a chef when she was younger but now she works as a Resolutions Officer in Alternative Dispute Resolution. I've been competing in the esports space semi-professionally since I was 15, and I turned it into a full time job as soon as I finished school. I've been to Korea multiple times, Las Vegas, and Iceland in my journey so far. Hopefully, I'll make it into the American League or a European League soon.
Do you have any pets?
My dog (still lives with my parents, however, as he is getting old) has been my pal for most of my life. He's called Crash, like the Bandicoot. He's a sweet old pup, but he's a little needy. He's extremely gentle and wouldn't hurt a fly. My mum has a cat, named after the League of Legends champion Nami. She's feisty and not as friendly, but she's starting to warm up to people.
How did you start playing LOL?
Funnily enough, my sister introduced me to League when I was 12 or 13. She barely even played, and I thought it was a card game. One day, I gave it a go, and I have been hooked ever since. I've been playing this game for way too long.
What does the LOL community mean to you?
The League community is endlessly supportive of whatever I'm trying to do, and they're always on board with jokes and memes at every occasion. There is some negativity around, as there is in any competitive space, but once you can tune that out easily, it's quite a nice place to be. I've also met so many wonderful and amazing people from this career that I'm truly lucky to know, and I hope I can become better friends with the people I admire.
What are your other passions?
My passions wax and wane, and for the most part I'm pretty entranced by video games. I like to go on walks with my girlfriend around the suburb. I like to cook as well! I'm not the greatest but I've learnt many things over the last few years and can make some pretty tasty meals. Baking is still foreign to me, but I did manage to make my own tortillas and they came out nice. I used to be really into soccer when I was younger, and if the opportunity comes, I'd love to play in some pick up games again. I am going to start taking dance classes once Covid is a bit less serious - I've already picked a studio and all. I'd love to say gym is a passion, but it's more like a fleeting obsession than a passion. Hopefully I can get back into it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story with me Jackson. It was a pleasure to read, and I wish you luck with the job hunting!!! Lots of Love LeicesterLadyPerkz xxx
