Spotlight on Fans: Dan Fiden

What is your name? Dan Fiden

Where you are based?

I live in Hawaii. What you would like to share about your family and job?

I’m the President of Cloud9, and generally focus on the things like working with our investors, our marketing, sales, merch, and tech teams. I’ve spent quite a bit of time working on Stratus — our superfan program, and Training Grounds — our youth and amateur esports program. My wife works at Stanford University, and we have quite a few dogs….

Do you have any Pets?

I have four dogs who are named Merle — a nearly 12-year-old English Bulldog, George — a 2-year-old Maltese mix we adopted last year, Hank — a 140-pound French Mastiff who is a bit over a year old, and Dolly — a 9-month old French Mastiff.

How you started watching/playing LOL?

I worked on the development side of the video game business for a long time, especially on “free-to-play” games — the kind of games you can play for free, and that make money by selling you things inside the game. League came to my attention because it was one of the first successful games like this outside of Korean and China (at least, one fo the first games that wasn’t casual like Farmville or Candy Crush.) I played a decent amount of it around that time — probably 2009 or 2010. I generally like FPS games more than games like League, so to be honest I didn’t really play much League again until recently when I’ve been playing a good amount of Wild Rift. What LOL community means to you?

My most direct interaction with the League community is with Cloud9’s fans, and I am consistently amazed by them. They’re so supportive of our players and company, and of one another. They inspire me to work hard to try to ensure that everything we do for them is as good as it can be, which is really what inspired Stratus. Our team team has taken a lot of time on the first Stratus member mystery box and I know members are going to be really delighted when they receive them.

What are your other passions?

I live on a small farm, so that keeps me pretty busy outside of work, and I surf as much as I can. I also play more video games than average for someone my age. Lately it’s been a lot of Valorant and Apex Legends, and I’m excited about the new Battlefield game (which looks like it might be somewhat similar to my favorite FPS ever, Battlefield 2142.)

Dan, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story with me! I love the fact that you are, first and foremost, a video game super fan! Lots of Love, LeicesterLadyPerkz xxx
