Where you are based?
I am currently living in Gilbert, Arizona. My husband, Craig, and our 2 girls, Mariah and Maddie, got here in 1998.
I was born in Hawai’i (before it became a state) and spent most of my life there. A lot of my family is still there, including my dad (who is 93) and my oldest daughter, Mariah, who moved there last October. I try to go back there at least once a year.
What you would like to share about your family and job?
My husband and I met in Hawai’i when he was stationed there with the United States Navy. We have two girls. Mariah is the oldest, born in 1994, and has travelled to 41 different countries, including England. She also lived in Australia for two years.
My youngest daughter Maddie, born in 1996, now lives in California and works for Cloud9. She has been working for them for 4 years and has travelled with the team to Worlds. She has gone to Korea, China, Europe and the latest, to Iceland.
I am self-employed and I work as an independent stylist with Color Street which is a nail polish that goes on dry, (from what I’ve heard, they do have plans to get to England in the near future).My husband is a real estate agent.
Do you have any pets?
We have two Golden Retrievers, Cali and Kai. Cali is Kai’s mom. On 7/11/2013 Cali gave birth to twelve puppies. Kai was the puppy that most like his father, Max, (who we had at the time but has since past on), so we kept him. Cali and Kai want to be by our side all the time and we love it. They are very good dogs, spend time with us in the pool and on the couch watching League of Legends.
How did you start watching/playing LOL?
I started to learn a little bit more about LOL when Maddie created an internship for herself, with Cloud9, in the summer between her sophomore and junior year of college. Before that I had heard a hints of it because both her sister and her had started playing League. After her summer internship with Cloud9, Maddie was told that they really liked her and wanted to hire her for video content but she had to finish college first. So she went back to college and finished the two years she had left in one year. A week after her graduation, in 2017, she was helping to create content for the League team and that is when I was pulled into the parallel universe of Esports. My husband and I have watched almost every Cloud9 League game since then.
Before the teams had to stop having game day in the LCS studio (Covid19 rules) we were able to see Maddie on tv doing her job for the team. That was always fun to try and spot her.
On a couple of occasions I even managed to make it to the LCS studio, in Los Angeles, (the last time being January 25th 2020). I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to go back.
I have yet to play a game of League of Legends.
What does LOL community mean to you?
Although I am not super involved in the LOL community, everyone I have met has been wonderful. I am so happy for my daughter and all the amazing friendships and adventures she has bee able to have because of the LOL community.
What are your other passions? What do you like doing with your time?
I love photography and travel and am looking forward to doing a lot more of both in the upcoming years as the world continues to open back up. Emily, if you and your family ever make it to Los Angeles to see a game you can count on me being there.
