Spotlight on: Fehize "Happy Ciel" Xian

1) What is your name?#

My name is Fehize "Happy Ciel" Xian! Or... that's what I tell everyone! My real name is closer to 'Anya,' but I am actually called "Happy Ciel" at home as a nickname from before LoL existed.

2) Where are you based?

It depends on which airport I serve! Usually, though, it's either the Mississippi Golden Triangle region or visiting family in so far south in Texas that it's México. However, I am working near St. Louis for now.

3) What would you like to share about your family and job?

Family? It's just me, myself, and my mom down in Texas. And perhaps my way too many art supplies. As for my job, I like to joke around and say that my task is to sit on my butt and order people around to bring order to chaos. Although, that's just a joking term! In reality, I am an air traffic controller - radar approach control in particular [with a side order of knowing how to build instrument landing procedures]! My day can consist of waking up, going into a dark room with no windows: the screens of scopes dominating the scene. A whole bunch of little dots move across the screen; I turn them, I climb them, I clear them for various approaches, and sometimes I even get to say a 'See yah~!' One of my favorite things in the world, though! Also, the perk of seeing various airplanes whiz on by is also rather neat. However, it can sometimes be a little... stressful. When the tornadic or severe thunderstorms roll on through, tossing severe turbulence; those last minute planes trying to outrun the storm; gotta make sure to land them against changing winds before the squall line hits-!!!

THAT is fun!

4) Any pets and info on them?

One of the things living in the woods of Mississippi and plains of Illinois is that you get used to is some scary, flesh-melting spiders [ok, they are pretty docile... normally]. I have a natural, organic spider killer - a Siamese cat called 'Instrument Landing System'. Or 'ILS' for short! When he's not chasing down spiders, he tends to sit on my lap and watch me play perhaps a little too much League. I also own two marimo's that I bought to roll around in a glass jar when I feel like touching moss. Marimo's are so cute~!

5) How did you start watching/playing LoL?

I used to play MMORPGs SUPER no-lifer back when I was in school. So much so that one of my relatives practically took it upon himself to change my gaming habits. He tried everything: shooters, strategies, cute-sy games. None of it would work. In the end, he comes to me and goes, "Happy Ciel, please, I beg you: play this game with me. There's this cool podcast I listen to, and these two guys from some indie company wants closed beta testers for this new game! C'MON. PLEASE. They need help, and we can learn it together!"

Needless to say, that podcast was talking about League of Legends! Almost twelve years of playing League!

As for watching, I am, in general, a LCS fan. Alas, I gotta admit... Golden Guardians and TSM are my soft spots. TSM was how I managed to get from Wood Tier V to Bronze my first few years playing the game with their guides! Although they really don't do that as much anymore, I will always have a cheer for them... even when my brain says they have a chance at losing. I was lucky enough to see them fight live on some finals a few times, though! I used to also be a big CG fan as well, but, well... RIP. At least I can still root for the pieces that remain! Somehow along the way, I even got CaptainFlowers to cast a game of mine. I practically had a heart attack that day in bliss!!

6) What does the LoL community mean to me?

It... depends. Sometimes, the memes and stuff are straight hilarious. Other times, I am glad the 'Mute' function exists. That aside, I made a lot of very good friends at the radar approach control playing League with the crew! The biggest thing that LoL did for me, though, was build confidence. I used to be very scared of people, so I would talk in a happy sounding voice to get shotcalling done [as that wasn't my real voice, so they wouldn't know it was me]. Eventually, over the years that that happened, I took that voice to use for pilots on the radio frequencies! With my happy voice I picked up from gaming, the pilots actually started to relax and feel safer and less stressed out in the skies! Even got a few 'thank you' notes and gifts for that! Thanks, League! xD

7) What are your other passions? What do you like to do with your time?

Ugh... well... What do I do...?

Airplanes, talking to airplanes, flying in airplanes, B-747 800-series [Intercontinental Version], drawing original manga and characters in a vain attempt to make a published manga, oil and soft pastels, watercolor, gouache, acrylics, fountain pens, writing prose novels, making homemade books, reading books, playing video games, building computers, sewing, biking, hiking, spelunking, tinkering with cars, studying various languages; severe weather spotting. I like to watch some limited anime as well, but I find myself being more picky than not! Funny enough, I am not a big music lover. It's kinda... just noise to me! ._.''''

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me
